    The cars are exciting to watch, the drivers are exciting to watch, the tracks are the best. IndyCar for this old former driver and perennial race fan is simply the best racing available. Thank you, Roger Penske, and all of the car owners for bringing the joy of racing back to me.

    I didnt know that the hybrid would allow a driver to get going after a run off etc where alot of the time the car would stall and need the bump start , eliminates needles yellows. LOVE THAT

    Amazed how this video makes this hybrid unit look like a good thing. 120hp? Nope, more like 50hp. It won't make enough power to make up for the added weight. And the supercaps have such a low capacity they will only get a few seconds of boost. And the worst thing is the rear braking. When they harvest the power under braking, the supercaps will top off and the regenerative braking will go away. Since it's not brake by wire, the driver will try to slow down more and lock the front brakes. The hybrid unit should have really only been introduced with a new car where they can make room for lithium batteries like most hybrid units use. The only thing the fans are going to notice different after they start using the hybrid is that the cars will be slower. Such a shame.

    As long as it still sounds like a race car(which it does) I don’t care what it is. My biggest thing is the starters. Hopefully now cautions will be thrown only when warranted and not held off to ensure everyone pits before it’s thrown. Now cautions should only be thrown for contact which means throw the yellow immediately.

    The extra HP is great (but comes at a weight penalty), but being able to re-start after a stall is HUGE!!! This should eliminate countless, painfully long cautions. Thank you IndyCar, Honda, Chevrolet.

    Reminds me of 1971 when Mario and Gordan Johncock were racing for position and someone blew an engine entering turn three. Mel Kenyon spun in the oil and got the wall at turn 3 exit and the safety crews were out to take care of him. He was half way out of the car. The yellow was clearly out. Johncock and Andretti came roaring down the back straight still fighting for position, neither willing to yield and both got in the oil and crashed. Johncock hit Kenyon's car and only luck saved the lives of the safety crew at his car. Mel had seen him coming and slid down into the cockpit and suffered only minor injuries. Mario hit further down the track and hit hard. All this happened because Mario and Johncock were not going to back down for the caution till they had the position they wanted. I don't know if it was Mario or Gordon who should have got the position but their stubbornness almost killed 3 people. Their was an attitude about rules back then and it was 'I'll do what I want and we'll force the officials to try and enforce it later.'

    Who thought of putting the motor-generator in the bellhousing? Honda had the Integrated Motor Assist on their first hybrid about 25 years ago that was sandwiched between the engine and transaxle.

    Get ready for tedious practice and quali sessions while drivers trundle around recharging and getting in the way of those on push laps. There's a bigger chance of yellow and red flags during these sessions cause inevitably someone is going to rear end a slower car - hopefully not fatally.

      For Iowa, the series has mandated a maximum of 105 kJ deployment per lap. That's 50 hp for no more than 2.8 seconds.

    This will boost the cars to over 800 HP and do away with the stalling. I don't understand the complaints. Faster racing with less interruptions. Looking forward to see how this debuts at Mid-Ohio.

      We hope it gets there. However, at the moment the 30 N-m additional torque limit imposed by the series means it can add no more than 51 hp at 12000 rpm, and the energy store limit of 105 kJ means it can provide that level of power for no more than 2.8 seconds.

      It’s not saving any fuel like you see in WEC hybrids. The amount of HP isn’t going to be like was originally talked about. Then they won’t be getting a new Eng in a few years like was suppose to happen because it won’t fit in the current chassis. On ovals that’s been very vague on what HP will be given, additionally. They don’t use the p2p on ovals now. I think it was an expensive venture with more hype then results 🤷 It won’t have the HP like We saw in the CART era
